Hattiesburg High School Temporary Transition to Virtual

Date: November 16, 2020
Dear HPSD Parents and Students,
Over the past week, we have seen an increase in the number of students placed in quarantine at both Hattiesburg High and N.R. Burger Middle. While we have not met the recommended Mississippi State Department of Health threshold to change learning modes, as a matter of precaution, both schools will
transition to virtual learning for students the week after Thanksgiving Break (November 30th - December 4th). During the virtual period, students will be required to log in to Schoology or Canvas for their daily assignments.
The following changes are for Hattiesburg High School and N. R. Burger Middle School ONLY
● Virtual instruction for the week of November 30th - December 4th
○ Students who are failing or those who lack connectivity at home may be required to continue attending school daily for in-person instruction. (Student transportation will be provided).
○ CTE students enrolled in two-year programs are allowed to attend daily.
● Students who participate in extracurricular activities are allowed to attend school virtually provided the following conditions are satisfied:
○ Attends classes daily
○ Completes all assignments
○ Passing all courses
○ Maintains on-track status for graduation
● Student meals will be provided at each site for parent/student pick-up.
● A decision regarding the learning mode after December 4th will be released at a later date.
At this time, there are no changes for the PK-6th grade schools. We will continue to monitor the COVID numbers for each school site.
Thank you for your continued support. We will keep you updated if any changes should occur before or during the Thanksgiving Break.
